where PCNR (Pixel Contrast to Noise Ratio) is:

• $\mu_B$: mean pixel value of the background ROI
• $\sigma_B$: standard deviation of pixel values of the background ROI
• $GL_i$: gray level of pixel i
• $GL_i$: gray level of pixel i
